You may not be aware of it but you can actually make a cold air intake for your car yourself. If you may be a little tight on the budget but badly need to replace your car’s cold air intake with the hopes of increasing performance, then I suggest you follow these instructions. I’ve stumbled upon them some weeks back and I want to share it with you guys.

1. Remove the stock cold air intake in your car.

2. Cut the hose of the stock air intake and get a heat gun to heat the rubber hose with. All the while doing this, you should also start working the tubing into it. Then, hold the edge of the rubber hose with a clamp.

3. Take the rubber hose and bent it the way it should be bent. But leave at least 1-2 inches of space between the exhaust manifold and the tubing. After which, you should quickly remove the bracket which holds the factory intake in place. Remove its bolts but remember to keep them somewhere safe. Measure the gap between the road and the tubing as it should be about 14-inches. Check for the length of the filter and if it is longer, you should make the pipe smaller. Measure the tubing and the ground and then cut it across.

4. Work the air filter onto the tubing. Warm the rubber part of the filter with the heat gun all the while continue to slide it on the tubing. Then, hold down and secure the edge of the rubber part of the air filter with a clamp.

5. Use the bracket that was earlier holding the air intake to support the tubing. Then gently bend it so that it becomes parallel to the tubing. You can also heat it to make it easier to bend with a plier.

6. Reinstall the bracket and get the two clamps over the cold air intake and the tubing. After which, jack the car up and place the clamp through the hole in the frame and around the tubing. However, don’t forget to tighten the clamp on the hose of the air intake on the throttle body securely. Also, be sure that the clamps are tightened down.
